What I Would Tell My Teenage Self...

If you’re currently reading this, a teenager yourself, I hope this post can not only teach you some valuable life lessons about growing up, but also stop you from making similar mistakes that I happened to fall right in the trap of. As I look back on my teenage years I can think of many moments where my actions were questionable and I think to myself now 'what the hell possessed me to do that!?'...but in hindsight, I can now (in my twenties and supposedly a whole lot wiser) find a lesson within every single mistake I made and have definitely learnt from them.
Sooooo here goes, if someone super brainy created a time machine and I could go back and talk to the teenage version of myself, here is a few things I would tell her…

♥ That friend your mum wasn’t too keen on actually isn’t a very nice person. Mums know best.

♥ Don’t give in to peer pressure. You’re not cool and you don’t look cool.

♥ Layers of Dream Matte Mousse smothered on the whole radius of your face (including your lips) is not a strong look. Back away from the foundation!

♥ Drinking Lambrini from the bottle in your local field isn’t cool and certainly isn't classy.

♥ Put the hair dye down.

♥ Be kind. ALWAYS. Even to people who you feel like don’t deserve it. You have absolutely no idea what people are going through behind closed doors.

♥ Don’t drink alcohol if you don’t like the taste of it.

♥ Don’t say no to opportunities just because you’re scared of how they’ll turn out. Take more leaps of faith and put more trust in yourself and new beginnings.

♥ Wear a coat! It’s bloomin freezing outside girl, get those layers on!

♥ When you have a ladder in your school tights, buy a new pair. Your mum was right (again), you do look scruffy.

♥ Learn to drive as soon as you get the opportunity to.

♥ I know things might be hard now but these feelings, no matter how unbearable they currently feel, will pass. Tomorrow will come, as will the next day and the day after that, and you will survive!

♥ Heels always seem like a good idea until they feel like a bad one. If you can’t walk in them, save yourself the embarrassment!

♥ Stop striving for perfection. It’s overrated and unattainable.

♥ It’s ok if your Ugg Boots are fake and your All Saints belts/Vivienne Westwood necklaces are Leeds Market's finest….you’ll always be fashionably dressed with a smile!

♥ Amy Winehouse was the only person who could pull off the 'poof' in her hair. You can't rock it Beth! Soz babes.

♥ Wipe away those tears mate. Boys are so far behind in maturity. He really isn't worth it.

♥ Everything happens for a reason.

♥ Stop being a madam to your Textiles Teacher. She only wants the best for you and does not get paid enough money to deal with your moody outbursts.

♥ Education is important. Work hard.

♥ Play hard.

♥ It’s ok to be emotional and it’s ok to cry.

♥ Do not be too trusting of everyone! Unfortunately, not everyone who is nice to you is your best friend.

♥ Start to think early on about the things that make you truly happy and use those as in incentive for future job prospects.

♥ Wear sun cream. It won’t stop you from tanning.

♥ Hug your parents more. If there is an opportunity to make your mum a cup of tea, take it.

♥ Don't take GCSEs too seriously. That A* in Ethics that you worked so hard for and got far too stressed over, unfortunately now means nothing.

♥ Embrace the spots! Every teenager on the planet experiences a stage of bad breakouts…we're all in this together!! Oh and also, don’t attempt to pop them before they’re ready (sorry for TMI)!

♥ Bullies will still exist beyond high school. Be kind to them. Show them as much love as possible. They usually are the ones who need it the most.

♥ Not everyone is staring at you. You haven’t got toothpaste around your mouth. You can’t see your underwear through your leggings. Stop being so paranoid and instead stand tall and proud.

♥ Your siblings WILL be your best friends.

♥ If you want to do something, do it! Life is way too short. Sit down at a piano and learn. Ring up your local Saturday drama school and become a member – you can do it!!

♥ Do not over pluck your eyebrows – they are there for a reason! Ask yourself, do you really want to look like Lord Voldemort?

♥ Eat properly. Set your alarm for a little earlier in the morning so you have time to eat breakfast. Make sure you eat lunch at school instead of buying the whole contents of Tesco’s sweet isle on the way home.

You will
never be younger than you are right now.

Comprehend the magnitude of that and enjoy every single moment!
