You Should Go and Love Yourself!

As we are all probably aware due to the amount of giant teddy bears and bunches of red roses that have been shoved in our faces for the past month (I’m not bitter or anything), Valentine’s Day is tomorrow!
In previous years, I have always used this day to dwell in the fact I’ve been single as a pringle. Take last year for example; I spent the day scanning through ‘dine in for two’ meal deals at M&S for a zillion loved up couples and spent my evening snuggled up in bed (alone may I add), watching Bridget Jones and eating my body weight in sour skittles.

Even though I’m still very much single, I’m approaching this Valentine's Day with a whole different mindset and now questioning why I ever allowed myself to feel so down in the dumps. Why was it such a bad thing that I wasn’t in a relationship and why did it always sound sooooo tragic? Looking back now, I can recognise that I always felt like someone else was going to come along and make me feel special. Someone else was going to make me feel content and safe. Someone else was going to make me feel good enough. What I eventually came to realise is that I needed to want to spend the rest of my life with me first, before I could expect anyone else to. I needed to make myself feel special, on my own, without anyone else’s input.
At the end of the day, the longest relationship you will have is with yourself…...so we've all got to make sure that we make it the best, happiest and healthiest one!

The fact that someone else loves you doesn't rescue you from the project of loving yourself.

Be strong. Be sassy. Be independent. This Valentine's Day, run that bath and pour yourself a glass of wine. Go to the shops and buy yourself a jumbo packet of love hearts. On the way home from work, nip into the florists and buy yourself the biggest bunch of flowers. Because guess what? YOU deserve it and being single does not lessen that....So, whether it’s a takeaway night with your partner that you have lined up or just a regular day at work, I hope you all have the loveliest of Tuesdays!!
And to you fellow singletons out there… It’s OK to not be in a relationship and it’s OK to devote the whole entire day to just loving yourself!
