Even though it seemed to whiz by, February was made up of fairly quiet weeks for me with a few really happy highlights thrown into the mix. All in all, it's been a good 'un! Spring is definitely in the air now and this makes me so excited! The daffodils are beginning to bloom, Easter eggs are back on the supermarket shelves and the sunglasses have escaped from the back of the drawer, due to make their first appearance of the year.
Positive things that have happened in February 2017!
♥ More than £590,000 has been raised to help fund an Irish girl’s cancer treatment after a video, of her asking for help, went viral on the internet. Shauntelle Tynan, aged 18, is battling a very rare type of cancer which can only be treated by a specialist centre based in Houston, Texas. Because of the amazing, kind people who have donated money to her just giving page, she flies to Texas on March 29th to undergo the treatment that has the potential to save her life.
♥ Following her INCREDIBLE performance on the super bowl halftime show, Lady Gaga fell a victim of body shaming through social media. Trolls made remarks about her ‘muffin top’ and told her to ‘put her tummy away’. She was quick to respond by letting everyone know how much she loves her body (exactly the way it is) and encouraged everyone else to love theirs too!
"I heard my body is a topic of conversation so I wanted to say, I'm proud of my body and you should be proud of yours too. No matter who you are or what you do. I could give you a million reasons why you don't need to cater to anyone or anything to succeed. Be you, and be relentlessly you. That's the stuff of champions. thank you so much everyone for supporting me. I love you guys. Xoxo, gaga"
What. a. babe.
♥ Damone Hudson, a bus driver from Ohio, was on his regular bus route one morning when he noticed a lady on the wrong side of the safety rail, ready to jump off a bridge and commit suicide. He pulled over, got out of the bus and urged the woman to step back off the ledge. He continued to stay with her until the police arrived, simply talking to her and reassuring her that everything was going to be ok. This brave act of incredible kindness saved a life as the young lady climbed back to safety.
♥ February 17th was National Random Act of Kindness Day! A whole day dedicated to doing something extra lovely for someone without expecting anything in return.
♥ A famous engraver placed a tiny picture of Jane Austin on some of the new five pound notes which are not estimated to be worth around £50,000! An elderly Irish lady was one of the few people to find one and has kindly donated it to charity. She sent it back to Graham Short, the man who engraved the notes, and asked if the money could be used to ‘help young people’. The lady who found the note didn’t want to become famous (she decided to stay anonymous) but just wanted her fiver to do some good in the world. The world needs more of ladies like her!
♥ Cristiano Ronalda has intervened to stop a dog shelter in Portugal from closing due to financial difficulties! He donated a signed Real Madrid top for them to auction to keep the shelter in business. I can't imagine for him that signing one of his football tops was a big gesture but this simple act of kindness was really important and meant so much to others.
♥ A basketball team in New Jersey decided that they would rather forfeit the season when they were told that no females were allowed to play for at least two of the games. This young basketball team (aged between 10-11 year olds) decided between themselves that they were not prepared to play any of the games without their female team mates.
♥ Valentine's day! So how many of us associate the day with romance, big bunches of red roses and life size teddy bears? Valentine's day isn't just about loved up couples! It's a day about showing love, affection and friendship to those who mean the most to us, whatever the relationship with those people are! Unlike last year, I stayed well from any of the Bridget Jones DVDs and refused to allow myself to cry into a box of chocolates. I instead had a pamper night in with my favourite chummy and we laughed until our stomachs hurt. It was a really good day! :)

Make sure the next month is the very best it can be, for you and for everyone else around you! Be extra kind to yourself and others...you may feel like your doing isn't going to make a massive difference but your actions really can change the world!
If not you, who? If not now, when?
New month. New mindset. New focus. New start!
Lots of love as always,
Beth x
