A Good, Old Spring Clean!

IT'S MAY - my favourite month is here!! Birthday month! And what better way to start it than on a bank holiday Monday! A week tomorrow I turn the big 2 1! Sweet Jesus. This morning my mum supervised me whilst I ironed a pair of jeans. I've got no hope.

After a week of sniffling my way through life with a hideous headache, I am fiiiiinally feeling a little less dead and a little more human! With several restless nights, this bank holiday weekend was spent catching up with sleep. Boring I know but with my 21st coming up, my best friend's birthday, my niece's birthday and my sister's birthday, all in the same month, a quiet weekend was actually just what my liver and bank balance needed (they're thanking me in advance right now)!

Today has been spent grovelling. I felt as if I somehow had to make it up to my mum for being an absolute nightmare these past couple of days. Apparently tired, ill and hormonal doesn't equal a happy, easy to live with Beth. As well as baking her a cake (the way to any foodies heart), I polished, hoovered and tidied the house from top to bottom. With Steps Greatest Hits on loud, I boogied my way around the house and actually really enjoyed it. Did I seriously just say the word boogied? Shit me I'm getting old.

I left my bedroom until last because I knew it would take me the longest to sort out. Before I began, it literally looked like a bomb had gone off - way beyond an organised mess. Put it this way, the suitcase I took to London with me over a month ago, was still sitting in the corner of my room (under a mountain of clothes)... unpacked. It’s strange because in every other aspect of my life I’m such a perfectionist and like everything to be tidy and put together…but my bedroom, holy moly I’m a mess! By the end, I filled one large big liner with rubbish and two black bags for the charity shop. I knew I was a hoarder but I even surprised myself with what I came across. I'm talking a stash of around 20 cinema tickets (dating back from 2011) - half of which I can't remember even watching, never mind remember who I went to see the film with. So glad I kept them! Naaaaaaat.

Whilst I was on a tidying frenzy, I sorted through my clothes too. I feel like this time of year especially, (when we're just about approaching the summer months) a wardrobe sort out is essential! Time to put those oversized jumpers to the back and spruce it up with some brighter colours and less woolly items! I got rid of so many things that I either didn't like and would never wear again or just didn't fit anymore. From first hand experience, I know there is nothing more damaging than keeping hold of clothes that don't fit. They're the items of clothing that shine the brightest when you open the doors of your wardrobe and acts as a constant, LYING reminder that you need to change to be enough. Your size/shape/weight doesn't determine self worth so why put yourself through that misery? Words of advice: THROW. IT. OUT – it feels liberating!

As well as daffodils and chocolate, spring is notoriously known for a good, old, traditional clean. If you're like me and have been putting it off for weeks, now is the chance to start! It got to the point where my bedroom was that untidy it actually made me feel stressed. It's now a space where I can sit and feel relaxed (or at least sit and stress about other areas of my life in a tidy environment ;))!
Tidy house, tidy mind!

I hope you've all enjoyed your bank holiday and excited for the month ahead! I'm feeling like May is going to be a really good one! :)

Lots as love as always,
Beth x
